Question Hide Assignment Information Turnitin® This assignment will be submitted to Turnitin®. Instructions Objective: Examine various problems, including relapse, that are encountered when treating chemically dependent and addicted individuals and how a counselor might manage these. Individuals with Substance Use Disorders not only face challenges in getting to treatment, but will routinely deal with various challenges, sometimes of their own making, within treatment. These challenges can be wide ranging, but the prospective counselor must be aware of, and learn to circumvent, arising problems in order to assist the client in his or her treatment. Potential problems can include relapse, testing the limits of treatment and the therapist, treatment “secrets,” the problem of non-compliance, cravings and urges, dealing with “the using dream,” dealing with uncooperative clients, sexual activity of the person with the substance use disorder, and how persons with substance use disorders deal with chronic pain issues.
